Scars from acne can seem like double punishment – first you had to deal with the pimples, now you have marks as a reminder.
There 3 primary acne kinds:
• Mild acne, which refers to the whiteheads or blackheads that most of us get at various times.
• Moderate acne, a more aggressive acne form that creates papules and pustules on your skin. Still OTC products should help.
• Severe acne, which causes nodules – very painful, pus-filled cysts or lumps – to appear under the skin.
Most serious scarring is triggered by the more severe forms of acne, with nodules more likely to leave everlasting scars than other types of acne. If scars appear on your skin, there is no time to wait! You really have to get rid of it immediately to stop more and more scars to show up.
If you have nodules, see your doctor or dermatologist for treatment.
Treating Acne Scars
You should know that most of the time there is no need for a treatment of the scars. They will disappear as time goes. The most typical bad habit is sqeezing acne. Try to stay away from it as much as possible. It is making it even more serious. Acne scars take two forms:
- Scars with a gradual dip or depression (sometimes called “rolling” scars).. This scars develop on the surface of the skin.
- Tight scars deep under the skin.
Because scars are the result of acne, you need to treat acne first.
Most Typical Severe Acne Treatments
Not all treatment products are applicable for every type of acne. In some cases, a medical doctor or dermatologist may suggest a chemical peel or microdermabrasion to help improve the appearance of scarred areas. These milder treatments can be done right in the office. If recent acne already left scars on you face, you have to try on the methods below:
Laser resurfacing.
This technique can be done in the doctor’s or dermatologist’s office. The laser procedure points the laser exactly on the scars and removes the top layer. Be well prepared it can take up to an hour. Is dependent on the severity of the scars. The doctor will try to lower any pain by first numbing the skin with local anesthesia. It usually takes between 3 and 10 days for the skin to heal totally.
Dermabrasion
During the procedure a wire brush is used. While it moves on the skin it removes the top layers of the skin. After few days, a new and fresh skin layer will will replace the old damaged one. It can take up to 3-4 weeks for the skin to heal entirely, but it less painfull than the laser therapy.
Fractional laser remedy
This method is not damaging the top layer of you skin. Instead, it work under it and removes the scar cells. The healing period is much shorter, in most cases only few days.
So called “rolling” scars can’t be managed with this methods most of the time. Medical doctor has to inject organic material under the scar. It will heal it and raise it to the level of healthy skin.
If none of this methods is helping, surgery is your last option to get rid of the scars. Never ever put make-up or other cosmetics product on the area affected by acne. It will irritate the skin and make the condition worse. If you have a red or brownish mark on your face that you got from a bad zit, it should eventually fade, just like the scars on your knees from falling off your bike as a kid. However, it may take 12 months or longer.
Still if you avoid squeezing and popping the zits, most likely you will never have the acne scars.
